This was a very interesting experience. I enjoyed putting the video part together with the pictures but uploading and trying to get the inkscape and multi media tools were very difficult. I did not know exactly how to make sure they were in the correct format in order to put them into movie maker. I plan on using this type of videos for my classroom. I believe that it can be a very valuable tool for the classroom. There are many other types of videos that I could use for my classrooms. There are many different benefits for the use of multimedia. In an agriculture classroom this will be beneficial for an introduction to horses. The main way to learn in agriculture is hands on activity but this is a definite introductions. I think that it is a very good learning tool and will expand my students knowledge on horses before they even set foot outside. 

Career Development and Entrepreneurship in Equine Science

Have you ever considered a career involving equine? Do you even know that equine also stands for horse? Well if you have ever considered this there are many opportunities for lifelong careers. There is large amount of people who need help training their horses, making sure they are healthy and running horse sports. Plus, is always a need for people to teach horseback riding lessons.  I am going to discuss these career opportunities in detail to exhibit the need for the industry.

There is always a large amount of people who do not know how to properly train horses. They may be having problems with behaviors such as cribbing, bucking or just not wanting to do the job that is asked of them. Highly skilled trainers are always in need all around the United States. This kind of job is designated for people who have grown up around horses and that can fully read and understand body language. They have to realize why the horse is acting a certain way and what can be done to correct it.

Equine Veterinarians are constantly in need on all levels. Just the average pet horse needs yearly checkup shots and maintenance. Horse that are involved in competition are very easily susceptible to injury and their needs to be a vet on the property when competitions are going on. Imagine how many horses are in the United States their needs to be a vet to tend to every single one of them. There is a career opportunity within this field.

Horse sports involve many different people. Types of sports are barrel racing, dressage, roping, western pleasure, jumping and many more. There needs to be individuals who are involved in running the show and getting everything together to advertise the competition. Then there needs to be a set up crew, ring stewards, judges, riders and a cleanup crew. Obviously, a few people can’t put the whole show on together so they will need to hire individuals. This is one more way to be a part of the equine field.

These examples are just a few ways that a person makes a career in equine science. People love their horses and will do anything for them. This is niche market and if you can find your place that you can do well in, you will become very successful within the horse business. You can’t just jump into this business you have to take your time to develop your name and reputation within the community. It takes time but the more work you put into this type of work the more rewarding it will be.

Brainstorming for Final Video Project

There are many different ways to ensure that my video is creative. I have to think outside of the box and think of ways to present my information in a fun and organized manor that will allow my students to absorb the information. At the beginning of the lesson I could create or find some type of riddle about horses that will draw the student’s attention to the lesson. Moving on into the lesson I would incorporate some type of technology and creativity into the video. For example, If I wanted to study the anatomy of the horse I could create a way that would allow for me to put a picture of the horse on the video. Then I would find a way to move the words and zoom in on that particular part of the horse’s body. There are many Web 2.0 tools that will allow for me to create this program. After we have gone over the information then the students could take a test and text in the answers to the software that way the students are engaged in the learning process.

Email Etiquette

 I learned valuable information from this assignment. With each assignment and blog I am learning proper use of technology and gaining ideas of how I could use them in my future classroom. This specific assignment showed me how to use inkscape which will be a definite tool I will use in my classroom to catch the attention of students. After I have their attention I will creatively display the information I want them to understand weather it is classroom rules or directions for the assignment. The email etiquette portion of this assignment is essential for use in the real world activities and future job opportunities.  I have always been and will continue to be very simple and direct in my emails. I make sure to get to the point and to be very polite when emailing my teachers or anyone else. Email should be taken more seriously than facebook “lingo”.  My mom has always instilled in me that I need to be appropriate in my emails. Everything that was mentioned in the power point and document we were instructed to read are ideas that she has always told me to use in emails. I plan on teaching my future students to use email etiquette just like my mom taught me in order for them to be successful in their future endeavors.  I may require them to send me emails and grade them on their ability to communicate effectively while using correct email etiquette.

My first initial reaction to this tool is that it was going to be very complicated to use and understand. There were too many different buttons and different ways to do accomplish what I felt could be done with Microsoft Word or some other type o f program. I was overwhelmed with all of my options and felt like there was no way to understand all of the information and the purpose of all of buttons. There will always be challenges in learning new and different ways to use these type programs. I will put my full effort on finding the answers to my questions and focus on fully understanding everything that can be accomplished within the program. I will watch you tube videos or search out ways to understand everything that inkscape or any other technological program has to offer in order so that one day I could use it in the classroom setting.

Autobiography: Sondra Lohse


This was a very interesting project. I loved the aspect of dealing with the pictures and transitions but the audio was extremely difficult to sync with the pictures and have it make sense. This could have very good uses in the classroom such as narrating different pictures of examples and narrating it so they can have a different approach to learning the subject. I could see a teacher using this in a classroom setting to show many different ways something could be done. Power point can be very boring to students using music and transitions that make sense will catch their attention just enough for them to absorb the information. I would make changes within the program, everything about the audio was complicated. Requiring students to use this type of video would be very effective if used properly and if i could teach the students how to use the programs effectively. I would love to see students using this type of technology especially in science classrooms where pictures and narrating are involved.

My name is Sondra Mary Lohse. I was born in Houston, Texas but I grew up mainly in San Marcos graduated from Judson in High School in San Antonio and now my mom lives in Waco. I have moved around my entire life and lived in around 14 different houses, I consider Texas my Home. My major is Agricultural Science and Leadership with a teacher certification. I loved FFA in High School and if you are doing what you love then it is not a job.  I love going to stock shows and competing with the animals that I worked so hard to train and get show ready. Also, I love the aspect of possibly having an impact on children’s lives and being able to have a good influence on them.  Three words that describe me are Persistent, Spontaneous and Unique. I am Persistent: if I have a goal I will achieve that goal through hard work and dedication. I love competition and love to succeed in everything I do. I am Spontaneous: I love to go on random road trips and do things on the spur of the moment when people lest expect. I am Unique : I love being me! I do the most random things that where people are like what the heck. But it works for me and that is all that matters. My parent’s names are Brenda and Brian Lohse. There are many motivations in life. My main influence has been my mom. I have watched her manage to raise me by herself and still go to school and complete the things that she wanted to do in life. Random fact about me is that I love to train animals. It allows me to mold and teach an animal that cannot communicate with people. I love being an individual and being myself. You get what you get with me.

   As i stated in the podcast students need to have a complete understanding of technology. They are the next generation to invent and produce items that will make life easier and more efficient for the rest of the world. This starts with their educators, if that person does not teach them how to effectively use technology for today they will have no idea how to continue to invent and progress the technology used today. Children are molded into what the educators and parents want them to be and we are creating people who can think for themselves and create. Technology in the classroom has had a major impact on the children of today. It has only been 3 years since I have been out of a high school setting and there has been major technological advancements. We started out with just a simple projector, now they have smart boards. This allows the teachers to get more hands on and have the ability to explain their subject better.

Technology in the Classroom

    This class will allow me to undestand technology and its use in the classroom. Technology is always making improvements and is will continue to become more advanced. The younger generations have known technology from when they were very young. It is imporatant for myself as an educatior to properly know how to incorporate technology into the classroom and fully understand how to use it.

    One of my main learning goals would be how use technology creatively and effectively. I know how to properly use Microsoft Office Word but this is very basic. I want to know how to use my resources and the programs that are out there to create fun, exciting and different ways to learn.

    The Game plan allows you to create specific criteria needed for your technology use. The game plan recommends you to set goals, take actions, monitor progress and evaluate your success. The plan requires you to take an active part in your learning success and keep you reliable. If I do not follow the recommended steps I may not be as successful in the class as I might expect. For example, if I do not have a goal of achieving an A in this class I may be less likely to turn in assignments, watch dates and work my hardest on each project. Now, since I do have a goal to earn an A I will work very hard and be diligent in all aspects of this class.

My name is Sondra Lohse I am from San Marcos, Texas and my major is Agricultural Science and Leadership. I would like to be an Agricultural Science teacher when I graduate. My teachers had a large impact on my life and I want to have the same effect for other kids. I have many different activities and interests the main ones are to compete and travel. I love to compete and have been apart of the Angelo State Wool judging and am currently on the Livestock Judging team. We get to travel to many different states and with the most recent being Colorado to compete at the National Western. Judging has allowed me to travel the country while learning many different skills needed for jobs in the future. Also, I will be traveling to New Zeland  with the education department this summer for the study abroad program. Once again, I love to travel and meet new people this will be an excellent experience and opportunity.
